ABOUT THE SCHOOLS
A state boarding school is one where you pay for boarding and the government pays for the education. There are now 38 state boarding schools in the UK, and they have enjoyed considerable government support in recent years.

State boarding schools exist in a variety of forms. Although most are for pupils aged 11-18, some offer junior boarding. Some are grammar schools which select their pupils by an entrance exam; others do not. Most are 'comprehensive' which means pupils of all abilities and aptitudes are taught together. Some offer the IB in addition to, or instead of, A-levels. Some are regularly among the highest-ranking schools in the state boarding school league tables.
